Dunbar Furniture celebrates Edward J Wormley’s Modern Classics
Often referred to as “The Best Of Our Time,” DUNBAR has provided proud owners the ultimate in comfort and beauty for nearly a century. For the first time in over 50 years, the most significant designs in the history of the company are once again available to the American design community.
Edward J Wormley was a master of modern design with a creative ability to integrate international design philosophies into the American Lifestyle. Wormley’s significant contribution to modern design has earned him a position among noted contemporaries like Charles Eames, Harry Bertoia, George Nelson, Florence Knoll, Arne Jacobsen, Eero Saarinen, Finn Juhl and Hans Wegner.
During the middle of the 20th century, DUNBAR and Edward J Wormley became true icons in American design and furniture history. In 1950, the Chicago Merchandise Mart joined with the Museum of Modern Art to sponsor the GOOD DESIGN exhibition. The annual exhibition, designed to commend selected furnishings for their “excellent appearance and progressive performance,” was often a platform of recognition for DUNBAR. Over a three-year period, Wormley’s creations for DUNBAR dominated the exhibition with an astonishing thirty unique designs receiving GOOD DESIGN designations.
For the past half-century, these cherished award-winning furnishings have been passed down from generation to generation. Modern classics designed by Wormley are also found in many leading museums and private collections.
The Edward J Wormley Collection includes over 45 unique choices. Some of the famous DUNBAR pieces available for the first time in 50 years include:
“Listen-To-Me” chaise (circa 1948)
“Chamberlain” nine-foot sofa (circa 1949)
“Tear Drop” chair (circa 1951)
“Golightly” table (circa 1949)
“Knowland” sofa series (circa 1955)
DUNBAR maintains a legacy of design integrity along with a true commitment to quality craftsmanship using only the finest available materials.
Interested parties can contact leading architects and interior designers for access to custom-specified original Wormley classics. DUNBAR is available exclusively to the trade. Retail pricing on the Edward J Wormley Collection ranges from a high of $12,500 for the coveted Listen-To-Me chaise to entry-level pieces at $1,200.
